Donald (Don) Lawton is the patriarch of the former company. He established Steelpac Construction Limited in 1987 and built a successful business delivering some major projects across New Zealand. In fact General Manager Gavin Griffiths from Novasteel quoted recently that the relationship between the two businesses has always been that if Novasteel wrote the business, Steelpac could build it. This relationship is one that has spanned over 30+ years.
After semi-retiring in late 2019 through succession planning where his children Cora, Chris, and Jen created Steelpac Construction Group Limited, Don is a shareholder of the subsidiary company Steelpac Construction Group Limited. His semi-retirement has Don working part time in the business continuing to QS upcoming projects and offer his building expertise. Don also attends monthly board meetings in his capacity as a sounding board advisor offering his years of experience to the family business.
